QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group’s singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain’s The Metal Circus, which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow’s death, the drummer wrote, “I can’t even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow.” UPDATE: The same statement can now be found on Frankie Banali’s official web site.
Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow — whom Politz calls “one of my closest friends” — recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans “where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues.”
Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads (late QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist) web site RandyRhoads.tk:
“I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I’m sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you.”
In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, “In for the Kill”.
QUIET RIOT’s latest studio CD, “Rehab”, was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album was Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin and Neil Citron. Legendary singer Glenn Hughes also made a guest vocal appearance on the LP.

Boston-based rock group EXTREME is set to return in the spring of 2008 with its first album of all new material in 13 years. The band features original members Nuno Bettencourt (guitar), Gary Cherone (vocals) and Pat Badger (bass), along with new drummer Kevin Figueiredo.
In the coming weeks, EXTREME will announce its plans for a world tour in 2008 as well as a release date and label for the as-yet-untitled album, which is being produced by Bettencourt. The guitarist says: “It will have all the ingredients of an EXTREME record. The music is always funkier than most rock bands — and born a bipolar bastard child of Mr. Zeppelin and Mrs. Beatles.” EXTREME has been introduced to a new generation of music fans who are connecting with the band through MySpace as a result of the inclusion of their song “Play With Me” on 2007’s Guitar Hero video game. Outside of EXTREME, Cherone joined VAN HALEN as lead singer in 1998, co-writing the “Van Halen III” album and touring the world with them. Bettencourt joined up with JANE’S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell to form the band SATELLITE PARTY and co-produce their album, “Ultra Payloaded”. SATELLITE PARTY also featured drummer Kevin Figuieredo, who was previously in a band with Bettencourt called DRAMAGODS. Through the years, Bettencourt and Cherone have remained close and continued to collaborate on occasion. But what exactly inspired them to rejoin forces as EXTREME? “Rock and roll famine…I know it might sound crazy, but there is a massive shortage of rock and roll on this planet,” says Bettencourt. “It’s almost extinct. I mean the true spirit of quality rock and roll — you know, musicianship, when you would give up every moment of your day to master your instrument and create your own identity and sound so as to respectfully outdo all your past heroes whilst proudly wearing the badge of their influences.” “Passion,” says Bettencourt, is what drives EXTREME. “To do whatever it takes, with integrity, to bring music to the people, not because of fame…but just cause you simply couldn’t wait to share it with them.” “We realized,” adds Bettencourt, “not only are the people starved for rock and roll…So are we. Let’s eat.” Look for the group to perform Saturday, December 1 at the Boston Music Awards at the Orpheum Theatre. ![]() |

Ok - now onto some fun stuff!Â
There were no funny sunglasses, birthday cake and gigantic cards, but we still had a killer time at last night Johnny A clinic at Daddy’s Portsmouth. We don’t do alot of clinics in that store, but you guys certainly came out in droves - clearly its time to start doing more events in that store!
They day started out with a stop over at WHEB to sit in with our friends “Greg & The Morning Buzz” - great time! Greg and everyone dancing in the studio once Johnny and his band started to play live on the air. Those guys at WHEB are so good to us - we can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for us over the years. We TRULY appreciate it more than I could possibly tell you and you always make sure we have a ton of fun in the studio! YOU GUYS ROCK BIG TIME!
Then it was off to the store to get ready for the clinic. I want to thank the staff at both Daddy’s Manchester and Daddy’s Portsmouth for doing such an outstanding job at both events - Johnny LOVED working with you! I know its a ton of work for you guys to get the store ready on your end, so thank you!
If you weren’t there last night….here’s what you missed….
Johnny and his band (and me too!) with Greg & The Morning Buzz
Clinic time!
Johnny with his newest fans!
Johnny and our resident Daddy’s Beatles guru, Daddy’s Accessory buyer, Lew DiTomasso
The GORGEOUS Gibson “Johnny A” signature series guitar. This is the ONLY “Johnny A” model in the Daddy’s chain. These guitars I am told are one of Gibson’s top selling signature series guitar - hence the reason that there is a back order on them - so if you are interested, go see the folks at Daddy’s Portsmouth as the guitar is there - again, its the only one in the Daddy’s chain.

SOOOOOO much fun at Daddy’s Manchester last night for the Johnny A clinic! Aside from Johnny A and his band kicking the usual ass that they do, it was Johnny’s birthday - so we had some extra fun! A packed house, a killer band, birthday cake and of course the evening was topped off with some sillyness at the Black Brimmer with Mama Kicks! Tonight is our last night with Johhny and his band and we will be at Daddy’s Portsmouth. There are few tickets left, so if you are planning on attending, I suggest you get your tickets NOW! Plus, tune into 100.3 WHEB in Portsmouth (you can listen online at http://www.wheb.com/) as Johnny and the band will be live on air with Greg & The Morning Buzz during their annual “Lend A Helping Can” auction.
If you weren’t there last night….here’s what you missed….
A HUGE birthday card signed by everyone in attendance!
Every rocker needs a cool pair of shades….
Johnny’s gorgeous family - daughter Nicole and wife Beth
Lisa Guyer, me, Johnny A and the silly David Stefanelli
Lisa hitting those HIGH notes as she sings HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Johnny….
And even a little surprise appearance by Rockstar Supernova contestant Josh Logan ripping it up with Daddy’s Manchester guitar teacher Nate Comp.

Although I wish I could have been. Last night we had dueling clinics going on - drummer Dave DiCenso at Daddy’s Boston and Ed Roland from Collective Soul at Daddy’s Portland. Since David is a Daddy’s clinic vet - I knew he would be in good hands with Hirsh and the crew down at Daddy’s Boston, so I headed to Portland, ME to not only take care of the “newbie” Ed Roland, but also, I hadn’t been to the Portland store since we remodeled it last month and I wanted to see the transformation. It looks fantastic! Â
Here are some pics from both the Boston Dave DiCenso clinic and the Portland Ed Roland clinic.
