Monday, February 25th, 2008

What a great time was had yesterday at Daddy’s Warwick for the in-store meet & greet with rock legends TWISTED SISTER!  As you may recall, the band is in town to perform at the Station Family Fund benefit along with a host of other incredible musicians and they kindly took some time out of their schedule to come meet with fans and raise some additional money for the charity.  I am happy to say that you all came out by the HUNDREDS yesterday and we were able to raise $1200 by door donations.  A HUGE thanks to the Warwick PD for helping us out yesterday, and the BIGGEST thanks to the Daddy’s Warwick staff - you guys did a fantastic job! If you weren’t there….here’s what you missed….

Monday, February 18th, 2008

It’s been almost a full month since the introduction of the 2008 models at the Winter NAMM show.  Orders have been placed, goods have been shipped and we’ll use this space to keep you up-to-date on the new gear as it arrives in the stores.

  1. The New America Standard Electric Guitars and Basses from Fender have hit the stores.  Featuring redesigned bridge (new block and saddle design) for the demands of the modern player, glossy fingerboard finish with a satin neck finish to give you the best of both worlds plus new finishes like Candy Cola (introduced in ’07), Blizzard Pearl and Charcoal Frost Metallic, Strats, Teles, Jazz Basses, Precision Basses and Precision Bass Vs are available now.

2. The Yamaha P-85 is now in the stores at just 599.99.  This is the latest addition to the best selling digital pianos, the P-85 is an 88 key, 64 note polyphony piano with improved graded hammer action and multi-strike piano sample/recording to give you the feel and sound of their world-famous acoustic pianos.  The P-85’s predecessor, the veteran P-70 is now being featured at only 499.99.

3. Lost in the holiday rush, was the introduction of the Tascam DP-02, a worthy successor to the very popular DP-01, the 02 features a 40 GB internal hard drive, two studio quality mic pres with phantom power and an EQ Frequency button to access high and low EQ shelf frequencies.  Add on the built-in chromatic tuner, CD-RW burner, USB 2.0 interface for transfers and internal metronome and you’ll understand that recording has never been easier.  The DP-02 is only $499.99 while the bargain minded DP-02CF (records onto a 1GB Compact Flash card, no burner) is just $299.99.

Twisted Sister at Daddy’s Warwick

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Daddy’s Junky Music Stores, Inc., New England’s largest musical instrument retailer, in conjunction with The Station Family Fund, will be hosting an in-store meet & greet with all of the members of legendary rock band “Twisted Sister” exclusively at Daddy’s Junky Music’s 1400 Bald Hill Rd., Warwick, RI location on Sunday, February 24th, from 4pm - 6pm. Fans will be able to meet and get their picture taken with Twisted Sister. A donation at the door to the Station Family Fund is kindly requested to meet the band.

“Twisted Sister is proud to be associated with Daddy’s Junky Music stores,” stated Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French. “It is our sincere wish that those fans who show up for our meet & greet can voluntarily contribute what they can to aid The Station Family Fund cause. This is such an important event, and nothing exemplifies the support of this great cause more than having a music store that is so community based. We’d like to thank Daddy’s for asking us to participate in this additional fundraising event.”

The meet & greet comes one day prior to the “Phoenix Rising” concert at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI, where Twisted Sister, along with a host of other artists, will perform to mark the five year anniversary of the Station Nightclub fire in which 100 people lost theirs lives, and countless survivors are still in need of financial help.

“The Station Family Fund is a small organization who has realized they have a strong ally in assisting those still in need. Twisted Sister has been become a huge force along with Daddy’s Junky Music in helping us meet those needs,” said Todd King, a Station Family Fund volunteer.

All proceeds from the in-store meet & greet with Twisted Sister & concert ticket sales from the “Phoenix Rising” concert, benefit the Station Family Fund, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization founded by survivors of the Station Nightclub fire. The Station Family Fund is committed to providing survivor relief, including costs of ongoing treatment and rehabilitation.

“We are very happy to a be able to be a part of this event and are very thankful that one of my favorite bands, Twisted Sister, is helping us with this great cause.” said Daddy’s Junky Music founder/CEO Fred “Daddy” Bramante

An open letter to Kanye West

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

So, I watched the Grammy’s on Sunday night - great show!  Morris Day and the Time, Tina Turner, the tribute to the Beatles and everything in between was great…well, almost everything.  The only part that bugged me was Kanye West’s acceptance speech - you know, the one where he came across as a completely entitled, and told us how he single handidly saved hip-hop music, no one else deserves Grammy’s but him bla bla bla bla.  So I decided to write an open letter to Kanye…and here it is.

Dear Kanye,

Shut it.

Love,

Candi

It is with great sadness…

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

While at NAMM this year, I was informed that Webster Theater booking agent, Ben Wu, had gone missing while on vacation in the British Virgin Island’s.  It is with deep sadness to find out that after an extensive search by local police, the US Coast Guard, friends and family, it has been concluded that Ben accidentally fell into the water and is presumed dead.

We here at Daddy’s met Ben for the first time back in 1997 as he was working, I believe as an intern, a the production company we hired to produce our Daddy’s 25th Anniversary event at the Hatch Shell in Boston, MA.  We worked with Ben, and his great friend Jeff Franklin (who also at the time worked at that production company and moved up through the music industry ranks with Ben) on and off throughout the years.  Most recently when Daddy’s opened up our Waterbury, CT location - Ben and Jeff were kind enough to donate concert tickets for our grand opening celebration. Ben was ALWAYS a pleasure to work with.

From all of us here at Daddy’s, our deepest condolences go out to Ben’s family, Ben’s friends (especially Jeff) and to all who had the pleasure of meeting Ben.  He was a gentle soul and will be greatly missed.

RIP Ben.

Candi and the entire Daddy’s Junky Music family.
