Event Season is here!

Spring is about to be sprung (or so we hope) and here at Daddy’s Junky Music, that means clinic season!  We’ve got some great stuff lined up - some into September already - and great stuff that we are working to confirm.  So much to tell you guys so let’s get right to it!

Well, first a shout out to our pals “Ernie & The Automatics” - they are having their CD release party tomorrow night (2/17) @ The Hard Rock Cafe in Boston to celebrate their debut album “Low Expectations”.  The band features car czar Ernie Boch Jr, Barry Goudreau (I can hear the google alerts going off now!), Sib Hashian (more google alerts), Tim Archibald, Michael “Tunes” Antunes, and Brian Maes - what a combo!  These guys are alot of fun live and frankly, last time I saw them play at the Hard Rock Cafe, Tim jumped face first into a giant cake and I for one am hoping that he’ll do that again :) Tickets are $10 and includes the new CD! Check em’ out here www.ernieandtheautomatics.com

Ok, now onto business :) - for those music students or those of you considering taking music lessons that live in the Portland, ME area, The National Music Workshop & Daddy’s Junky Music Portland, will be hosting a FREE concert at Daddy’s Portland, ME on Saturday March 28th from 10am to 6pm to introduce the NEW TEACHING STAFF!  That’s right, the new teachers, Mike Stockbridge (guitar), Nate Perry (guitar), Duane Edwards (Bass) and Tom Delrossi (drums) will be performing live at Daddy’s throughout the day performing rock, blues and jazz!  There will be prizes & give aways including a $100 gift card to Daddy’s!  Or you could have a FREE 15 min private lesson with one of the teachers!   Plus, if you sign up for lessons on March 28th at Daddy’s Portland, you will be given a special discount on your first month of lessons!

Check out some info on the guys:

Duane Edwards is no stranger to the idea of holding down the bottom end. He began playing electric bass in middle school.  As he progressed into High School he understudied with Marlene Hall, the band director for SAD#5.  During his senior year of High School Duane was an assistant music teacher at the Middle School; working with every instrument and assisting in their performance.  In college he dedicated himself in jazz studies and on the acoustic bass. He can be heard playing the upright for the cuban son-band Primo Cubano, the Hasaan Muhammad Quartet, the folk act Johhny No Shoes, the Evan King group, and other freelanced gigs around the state. Duane graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BM in Jazz and Contemporary Music from UMA.

Mike Stockbridge Born in 1976, Mike took an interest in the guitar at the age of 9 and soon began studying classical guitar at a local music academy. He continued to study privately with a variety of guitar instructors until 1996, when he was accepted to the world-renowned Berklee College of music in Boston MA. In 1998, Mike left Berklee to tour the east coast blues circuit backing both MA harmonica sensation ‘Tall’ Richard Roquemore and Carolinas Blues legend David ‘Rock Bottom’ White. When Mike returned to NH he spent the next year studying jazz repertoire with pianist Charlie Toor as well as freelancing around Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. In 2003 Mike decided to continue his studies in music and enrolled at the University of Maine where he has been a part time student until his recent graduation. 2008 marks the debut of Mike’s first full length, self titled album as a bandleader, which proves Mike is set to embark on a new phase in his performance career separating him from the rest of his peers. As an educator with over a decade of experience, Mike has been affiliated with many great educational programs, most notably the Tony Boffa school of contemporary music in Westbrook ME. Those interested in studying with Mike will find that his approach to private teaching changes with each individual student, because, as he sees it in the end, we’re all different, and we all learn differently. Really with all of his pupils, Mike tries to keep it as entertaining as possible while still working toward a goal.

“The number one thing I want for my students is for them to be open-minded about style and approach: to think for themselves and not get boxed in with what they think things should be or what their peers tell them they should be. I want them to come away with technical knowledge, as well, and to feel like they’re better musicians when they walk out the door.
